In the 19th-century, mercury glass was used as an alternative to more costly silver. Developed as a means of offering more affordable decor, mercury glass came to have its own intrinsic value as a result of its delicate beauty. Mercury glass is created by painting a layer of silvering formula between two layers of hand blown glass. Often etched with floral or other motifs, it was employed to make vases, goblets and candlesticks. We are happy to offer an odd assortment of mercury glass candlesticks found at an English estate sale.
