Handwoven English River Rush Cachepot, Basketweave
Description
LIMITED EDITION
Talking with Deborah Needleman about her craft is a master class in the art of weaving. Not only does Deborah deeply love what she does, but she also has a deep respect for the centuries of weavers who have come before her, their history and their technique. She says of these beautiful cachepots woven at her home in Garrison, New York: the material is English river rush, which is a naturalized sedge grass that grows in the marshes and rivers around the British Isles. Mine is sources from a weaver in Bedfordshire who harvests it every summer. There is a long tradition in Ireland of weaving baskets, bags and mats from rush, which I adore and whose designs inspire mine. Sadly, it has nearly died out. Over time the variations in the colors will mellow to a lovely golden hue. Each basket measures 6"x 6"x 6.5" and comes with a small metal liner.
