Description

Walter Inglis Anderson (1903–1965) was a Mississippi Gulf Coast artist known for his deep connection to the natural world. Much of his work was shaped by long, solitary periods on Horn Island, where he sketched plants, animals, and shifting coastal light with a distinct, rhythmic style. His art blends playful detail with quiet observation—qualities reflected in this alphabet design, which is based on one of the many wood-blocks he created during his lifetime and that were discovered in his studio after his death.

A silk-screened reproduction made from Anderson's original wood-block, this piece was then hand-colored by a contemporary artist. Like the other block prints we offer, it highlights the simple charm of Anderson’s line work and nature-inspired motifs. Each letter is paired with a small coastal element or creature, finished with light watercolor accents that keep the piece feeling fresh and personal.

I have collected works by Walter Anderson for many years and am so happy to bring a small selection of pieces to Reed Smythe. My sister gives the appropriate alphabet prints whenever she has a baby gift to send.

Each print measures 11" x 14" and is sold unframed. Colors may vary slightly as each is hand colored. This print is in stock and ready to ship.
