Made in Arkansas by the same talented potter who designs and produces our mochaware, marbleware is characterized by its more organic patterns. Like mochaware, marbleware was popular in the 18th and 18th centuries, but many decorative scholars date its use to the Romans. The potter achieves the beauty of this by carefully mingling wet pigmented clay on an already-fired form. This large piece would look stunning hanging on a kitchen wall with other pottery, and I love to bring it out laden with hors d'oeuvres when company is coming.
